Pixel Sorting

Image meets algorithm

Pixel sorting is a process of taking a digital image and programmatically rearranging each individual pixel into a new configuration. The outcome, depending on how far you push it, can look a lot like a surreal landscape of digital damage. It's a useful technique with a wide range of applications, including as an alternative to the now ubiquitous blurry backgrounds seen in UI design.
